Patient Liaison

Service Description

The Patient Liaison Officer, Ms. Josephine Griffin, is available to you and your family during your stay in MUH.  She provides a liaison service for patients, carers and visitors.

If you have a health problem or concern, you should talk with your doctor or nurse in the clinic, ward or department.  They are the best people to explain your medical condition, treatment or clinical procedure.  However, if you have other concerns, please contact the Patient Liaison Officer.

Complaints

Should you need to make a formal complaint, the Patient Liaison Officer can guide you through the formal complaints process.  We are increasingly working to ensure that our patients receive the best care and we would encourage you to let us know your views on the service we provide.

Feedback

Patient feedback is vital for us to improve our service.  There are comment boxes and cards situated throughout the hospital; and we actively encourage both patients and their families to fill them in.  We welcome all feedback.

Ward Visits

The Patient Liaison Officer also conducts ward visits.  She meets patients and their families on the wards and carries out in-patient surveys and gathers information from patients, families and staff in an effort to improve the overall patient experience.

Service User Involvement

MUH supports service user involvement and a patient focus group meets quarterly.  Hospital management attends the meetings and discussion occurs regarding patient feedback and comments.

If you are interested in joining the group, or want to find out more, please contact the Patient Liaison Officer.

MUH is delighted to have been chosen as a model hospital in Ireland for service user involvement.  Work is ongoing with the National Advocacy Unit in developing this project further.

Sage Advocates

Sage advocates are available to patients.  These advocates promote and protect the rights, freedoms and dignity of older people by developing support and advocacy services wherever ageing poses a challenge for individuals.  Their newsletter can be found on their website:  www.sage.thirdageireland.ie.
