Description
The Biochemistry Department deals with the biochemical basis of disease and the use of biochemical tests for its diagnosis, prognosis, screening and management. The automated chemistry section provides analysis of samples for renal, liver, cardiac, bone, lipid, iron studies, specific protein assays, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM), Acetaminophen and Salicylate assays. The immunology section performs both serum and urinary electrophoresis. The immunoassay section performs endocrine, tumour marker, troponin I, BNP, PTH and haematinics. Other related diagnostic services provided by the Biochemistry department are blood gas analysis, faecal occult blood and faecal calprotectin analysis
Accreditation
The laboratory has been awarded for accreditation under ISO15189 since 2011. The current list of tests covered under accreditation are listed in the accreditation certificate referenced 297MT available to view from www.inab.ie or on request from the laboratory. Tests not covered under scope are highlighted on the report.

08:00 20:00 hrs Mon Fri (deadline for specimen in the lab 19:30)
09:00 12:00 hrs Sat (deadline for specimen in the lab 11:30)
09:00 12:00 hrs Sat (deadline for specimen in the lab 11:30)
On-Call Service
Outside of the routine hours noted above urgent requests on hospital patients are processed by on call medical scientists. On-call staff can be contacted through the switchboard 021-427 1971.
