What is an Urgent Care Centre?
The Mercy Urgent Care Centre at St. Mary’s Health Campus offers assessment and treatment to anyone who has had a recent minor injury, for example, suspected broken bones, minor burns and scalds or cuts.
The centre is led by a consultant in emergency medicine; and we provide a full range of urgent care services (for example: stitching and application of plaster of paris). We can refer to all hospital services of Mercy University Hospital.
What CAN be treated?
- Suspected broken bones to legs (from knees to toes)
- Suspected broken bones to arms (from collar bone to finger tips)
- All sprains and strains
- Facial injuries
- Minor burns and scalds
- Wounds, bites cuts and grazes, including scalp lacerations
- Splinters
- Foreign bodies in eyes / ears / nose
- Minor chest injuries.
What CANNOT be treated?
- Children under 10 years old
- Injuries following a fall from a height or a serious road traffic accident
- Serious head injuries
- Chest pain
- Abdominal pain
- Gynaecological problems
- Serious neck/back pain
- Pregnancy related conditions
- Pelvis or hip fractures.

Staff
The Mercy Urgent Care Centre is staffed by a team, led by a consultant in emergency medicine, including doctors, clinical nurse managers, staff nurses, radiographers, multi-task attendants, physiotherapists, social workers, pharmacists and clerical staff.
Who can use the Urgent Care Centre?
Anyone from Cork city and county or those visiting from elsewhere can come to the Mercy Urgent Care Centre.
Opening Times
The Mercy Urgent Care Centre is open from 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week including Bank Holiday as an from 7th Oct 2024. After 8 pm please go to the Emergency Department at Mercy University Hospital or Cork University Hospital.
